Farmhouse Style; Sarah Richardson - 13 Farmhouse Chic Inspirations.
September 04, 2010
Sarah Richardson
proves 'farm' and 'chic' can co-exist,
and these images from hgtv.com
highlight the innovative design.
For tons more Sarah Richardson magic,
1.
Antique corbels
create balance when adding lots
of modern enhancements to a farmhouse kitchen.
Here are some affordable pretty corbels in Rubberwood to paint.
2.
Shades of grey
work magic with stainless appliances.

3.
Comfy high quality barstools
upholstered in a fresh print (oilcloth!) add more luxury and comfort-value than rustic old antique stools or metal French ones we might expect to see.
This one might create a similar farmhouse moment.

4.
Farmhouse architecture means
you don't have to take yourself too seriously.
Here is a great lantern pendant which would
work in almost any farmhouse-y space.
Holborn Lantern, Aged Iron |
How inviting is this farmy foyer?
Rosy doors and hardware are pure genius.
5.
Expensive or boring
stairway runners
have no place here.
Rae Pecan Table |
Quilt |
6.
Paisley,
dots, a herringbone-ish quilt, and
a rooster on a clock juxtapose beautifully
(it's illegal in some states to use 'juxtapose' like I just did).
7.
Not every piece of
wood furniture
in a farmhouse must be painted!
(A white painted 4-poster would maybe have been 'the expected' here.)
Cara Sofa |
8.
Burnt orange, apricot, and garnet
punch up neutrals
without overwhelming.
(Honestly I have no idea how SR accomplishes this...
that's why it's design voodoo...
also, am I the only one who sees Jesus
in the wood grain of the clock?
VERY farmhouse rock and roll, Sarah.).
9.
Seriously. No words.
Unicorns, a crown, a crest...
the piece deserves to have a home designed around it.
French Vintner's Basket |
10.
'Farmhouse' can be
romantic
and feminine.
See more inspiring farmhouse chic here.
11.
Sometimes the bones of a farmhouse are worth honoring.
Here, SR went renegade with her kitchen design...
and built a
lower counter/cabinet
so the window could live on...
flippin SMART and inspiring.
Washed Dinner Napkins |
12.
Oodles and oodles of beautiful showing-its-age
maple hardwood flooring.
Large Country Chandelier, Belgian White |
13.
Restful spaces
in a farmhouse can feel clean,
not cold,
nostalgic yet modern.

ReplyDeleteI love Sarah Richardson's style... when I win the lottery, I'm going to hire her and Tommy to do my whole new mansion! ;) Okay.. a girl can dream can't she...?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe woodgrain on the clock looks like Abraham Lincoln to me, lol.
I love Sarah. The farmhouse series was my favorite, but the new cottage is to die for too!
ReplyDeleteI'd really love to have you post this on my linky party!!! The party is open for a few more days.

ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite decorating show! I wish HGTV would air a little more "Sarah" and a LOT less House Hunters. :@
ReplyDeleteGood morning Michele,
ReplyDeleteAs always love scrolling through the fab photos on your blog and this time is no different. LOVE Sarah. I wanted to thank you because I am currently working on designing a kitchen for a client and the range placement has become an issue. The photo with the range in the corner or "dead space" is where the client is wanting it but having a hard time deciding if it will work. I emailed her this photo this morning so that she could have a visual. So glad to have your blog to constantly refer to. Have a happy day!!

Good morning Michele,
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to visit your blog today. I am currently working on a kitchen redesign for a client and we are deciding on range placement. The photo of Sarah's range in the corner or dead space is where the client is thinking. I wasn't so sure, but now we have this lovely visual. I emailed the photo to her to help her decide. As always, I love scrolling through your blog for constant inspiration!..Thanks and have a happy day, Mariaelena
