Inernationally acclaimed architect Peter Marino's

description of his mature garden just may woo you

even before glimpsing beautiful images of it:

The starchitect's enchanting Hamptons Garden

is alive with lush plantings and 42 sculptures

by Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne,

and when asked by Architectural Digest

about the collection, he replied:

"The Lalannes's surreal qualities and sense of humor are the two qualities that I wanted my gardens to share. In every sense, the blooming gardens are totally surreal, and I purposely let them get overgrown so they don’t look too serious."

Traditional Decor Inspiration: Blue and White Hamptons

This Southampton home brimming with gorgeous,

traditional decor inspiration with its blue

and white lovely, was designed by

Carrier and Company.

It has my mom's name written all over it,

and when she sees this post she will

immediately shriek and want to re-decorate.

I have shown it to you before in a post reviewing

Carrier and Company: Positively Chic Interiors

by this design team, but I dunno...these spaces

are so positively chic and breathing spring

and summer to me that I cannot resist

replaying all the goodness.

Just listen to what Anna Wintour (Vogue)

says about Positively Chic Interiors:

“Each and every interior here embodies a real sense of personal charm; these are homes whose high style comes from a very human-scaled sense of warmth and joy.”

Apparently the home we'll tour now

is in Coopers Beach Southampton,

but it sure looks like heaven to me.

DIY Wood Wall in Our Master

It's all about the DIY Stikwood wall

project in the master bedroom today!

I'm thrilled to bring you another update on

our fixer upper where we recently turned our attention

to an ugly wall in the master bedroom just aching

to be transformed with reclaimed wood planks.

Stikwood to the rescue, who provided a beautiful

new color option called HAMPTONS

(inspired by white sandy beaches)

that I knew would be perfect since it imparts

a peaceful, quiet, aged-to-perfection lovely.

Hamptons makes a more subtle statement

than some of the other wood plank options

with its cashmere-y sandy white,

understated whispery vibe.

You can even see this statement wall in a video

What is Stikwood?

Why a Statement Wall?

Statement walls are a perfect solution

when you want to add interest or additional

architectural interest to a room, but

they are also the smart solution when

you have a great big ugly wall like ours.

What do I mean the wall was ugly?

This home's previous owners (and there were

several) had wacky warped fun in the master

and master bath, recessing enormous

speakers in the walls everywhere.

I'm not kidding.

In the master bath's ceiling were

4-foot diameter round speakers.

The texture isn't popcorn texture...but orange peely.

Also.

You may remember I told you the light switches

for the bathroom were installed...where else?

In the bedroom exactly where most sane

souls would place a nightstand and lamp.

What all the backstory adds up to is, there were

giant craters everywhere which got poorly

repaired and could not be easily camouflaged

since walls here have a stucco-texture finish.

#BadWallRepair
Would be awesome if we lived on the moon.

With me?

Lumpy, poorly repaired, eyesore patchy,

annoying forlorn wall in the master bedroom.

Let's revisit the room.

Master Bedroom BEFORE

Before the Statement Wall

The above doesn't look half bad, and it's

how the room looked before we got to work.

But as with so many neglected fixer uppers,

there were hidden defects and yuck to remedy.

We began by:

removing the sconces,

pulling up the (brand new) carpet

throwing away 20 yr old carpet pad

(soiled from assorted un-pottytrained pets

and left beneath new cheap carpet)

bleaching floors,

and painting walls.

Then it was time to install

wide white oak hardwood flooring.

Things began to look a lot better, but what you
cannot see in the next photo are the flaws
all over this wall, some of which I masked with
art work on the nightstands to tolerate it.

But tolerating is overrated.

The cost is $12 per square foot,
and in addition to a quality product,
you are paying for the peel and stick
innovation and ease of installation
because time is money, and who
needs labor intensive statement walls!?!

We weren't sure what to expect for the installation
of this peel and stick reclaimed wood product,
since it was our first go, but guess what?

Easy.
Not many tools involved beyond a ladder,
tape measure, level, Stikwood roller, and saw.

Once we got into a rhythm of working together...

...it went up beautifully and quickly.

How quickly?

Guys, this wall is around 16 feet wide.

From start to finish, the Stikwood huge statement wall

came together in 3 hours, with one person doing

the cutting, and the other peeling the backing

off thin planks and assisting.

Let's view the results of the ugly wall makeover

from orange peely, lumpy, forlorn to white sandy

AFTER!

Ahhhhhhhhh!

Much needed texture, and the PROPER texture!

A natural brown wood finish would have also worked;

however, with adding 4 rustic alder doors to

this room and skipping an area rug,

there is plenty of warm wood glowing.

After with reclaimed wood accent wall

I can't tell you how much "cleaner"
the new accent wall feels.

If you have an ugly wall, consider the peel and stick possibilities.
