DIY: More STENCIL Splendor
October 04, 2011Royal Design Stencil |
I'm at it again with a little help from
One of you will win a stencil,
so be sure to enter my giveaway
at the end of the post!
This time around it was all about
manipulating a
BIG
stencil
for
BIG
scale
with just
a little time...
and a little canvas.
I chose this gorgeous florentine damask
from RDS, knowing it would work
for some of my small collage work
as well as for an allover dramatic
effect on a wall.
Remember, stencils can be used
over and over!
My canvas (8"x10") is much smaller than
the stencil so after painting it a French grey
and letting it dry, I chose my favorite
part of the stencil and pounced cream paint
over just that section.
It was finished with the 'M' in black.
(the most basic letter stencil
you can find at the grocery store).
This is the exact same stencil!
The above is the effect I'll be able to achieve
when I tackle one of my walls!
But for now, I'm loving the modern look
of a large scaled print.
For an even speedier project, use
a discarded book as your canvas.
Simply remove the pages from an old book,
paste a few inside the cover, layer on
images (or linen like I did),
and stencil as imperfectly
as you desire.
Mine was hung on the wall with a bit of silk
casually wrapped around the book cover.
A little more time is all you need
for stunning results like this.
And if you were thinking stencils
are old fashioned, think again, mama.
Your old furniture is begging you for a makeover,
and stenciling is a perfect FALL PROJECT!
Did you see what magic MMS worked
with Royal's french poem stencil?
That Marian knows her way 'round furniture!
And now the giveaway for a Royal Design stencil
($50 or less, Free shipping)
*giveaway is now closed*
To enter:
1. Follow this blog then visit
Royal Design Studio.
2. Leave a comment here about which
stencil you think you'd like to use.
3. For a second chance to win,
leave a second comment telling me
whether you have used a stencil before.
Giveaway closes midnight (Central/Standard time)
October 12th, 2011 and winner will be randomly chosen.
Hope you'll help me spread the word about the giveaway!
Peace to you right where you are.

ReplyDeleteWowza! I love your blog, and thanks for letting me know about the giveaway! I am your newest follower! LOVE the Entwined Trellis stencil. Along time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I stenciled Star Wars stuff in my sons room.
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a sweet comment. This is very funny that you invited me to this giveaway. Did you see my recent stencil post? I'm ready to stencil my powder room with a RDS stencil and can't find it!!!!!!! Seriously. I bought it a few years ago and never used it. I moved in March and have no idea where it is. I painted my powder room and now can't find the stencil. Such a timely giveaway! Well, if I could chose all over again, I'd pick the Casablanca Trellis or Chain Link. I'm following too!
ReplyDeleteI have stencilled previously, with Jod! I would love any stencil that you pick out! I have my last canvas from you hanging in my stairway. Love the "Wish"canvas!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've stenciled many, many homes and even did it as a business, "back in the day". Our company was called "O Faux Fun". We did decorative painting as well.
ReplyDeleteKaren

I would love the florentine damask stencil. It is perfect for master bedroom!!!
ReplyDeleteI used a stencil for the first time last summer. I painted a small wall in a bathroom and recently painted over the wall. Horrible experience!! I'm hoping to have a better outcome next time. You can read about my bathroom wall here:

I've seen a few of these stencils floating about pintrest. I've added you to my blog roll... We (My hubby and I) are restoring an old family farmhouse. I found recently some old linoleum very similar to Casablanca Trellis. Which I've been dying to use as a tone on tone theme in the main hallway. Its 40'x 11' so maybe I'm out of my mind... The true stencil would make things so much easier.
ReplyDeleteYou can find me on Etsy as ModernFarmBaby

Wow! Spring Time in Paris 3091 for sure. Oh my word my head is swimming with ideas. AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteIt's with actaul releif that stencelling is coming back in fashion as I loved how it looked and loved doing it back in the mid 90's. I boxed up my kit, so loathed to part with it. Better go and rummage in the barn to find it.
Happy to have 'met' you today, thank you for telling me about your giveaway.
xxx
Here's my second comment to say I have certainlt stencilled before. I was quite addicted during the mid 90's. I stencilled anything that stood still for long enough!

ReplyDeleteFINALLY; my bathroom redo starts on MONDAY!!!! After the tile, it will be the Annie Sloan paint on the amoire I stripped, and then, onward to stencil my ceiling! Flourish, Large goes with the tile border I picked. And planning on using a copper/champagne mix for just a touch of color and pizazz. EXCITED it is finally time!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have stenciled alot over the years. My most recent stenciling project was to list my husband's and I's names together, then each of my children leaving space for their future spouses and then put my favorite Bible verse along one wall. My next project will be my bathroom where I just painted over the last stencil project as I am completely changing my bathroom up.

ReplyDeletehttp://kristenbalvin.blogspot.com/2011/10/newest-diy-projects.html
Can I love more than one? I could do a whole wall in the Nova Trellis....maybe I will! and a little French table I am working on would look charming with the Paris Postage Stamp....hmmmmm I am a follower xo
ReplyDeleteSecond comment: Have I ever used a stencil? That's all I use! Here' why. I spent days trying to remove the worst wallpaper job on the walls of this house when we first moved in. I swore I would never use wallpaper and I haven't. I love stencils. They are easy to use and just paint over when you are tired of it. I have used them for years and years back when I was into Americana decorating. (about 100 years ago :) Old fashioned?? Never!! I have never shown on my blog how I use stencils in my home. Maybe it's time. Thank you for the fabulous giveaway. xo
