You are in for a treat with a collection of

beautiful rooms with eclectic decor and

design style seen through the lens of

Oberto Gili.

There will be unforgettable eclectic interiors

captured by a master to behold,

OH, YES, we shall be charmed...

but first, a word about

yesterday when I shared

a bunch about my genetic mutation(BRCA2)

and a little about other illnesses which have

colored my days and wisened my ways.

I sure hope it didn't overwhelm you terribly...

I felt compelled to express a lot of

gratitude since so often we take for granted the

modern medicine which makes all kinds of healing

and comfort available.

It was also important to me to raise awareness about

hereditary cancers and the preventative choices

available which may at first seem extreme

in the short term.

I can't stress enough how thankful

I feel for organ donors...the skin I needed for

my surgeries was there because of

the kindness of strangers who chose

to donate...what a blessing

you donors are!

And how is girlfriend going to creatively

segue from a spiel about genetic mutation to

a post with genius interior photography

from Oberto Gili?

How about this...

It may be clear to you how

I have this passion for interiors:

for room decor AND the soul keeping variety.

I think what an illness, shattered dream, or failure

can potentially do for a soul is to powerfully

bring one's fragility into clearer focus.

Right?

When the shadow comes, we suddenly see

our life's landscape through a different lens.

I think this is maybe how beautiful photos

are born too...those eyes behind the camera

understand the dance between light and shadow.

They know how to play with it to unlock beauty.

That dance is where you'll find me these days.

Onward.

Farmhouse style and country decor perhaps

as you have never seen it is in store today!

If you have hung out here for long,

then you know my thing is white and neutral

interiors since such a palette works magic

for peaceful, timeless, tranquil decor.

But I enjoy seeing a colorful display...did

you catch all that vibrancy Anthropologie

brought to Patina Farm the other day?

(Some of you found it sacreligious, but

I thought it was brave and bold of the Giannettis

to allow an alternative interpretation!)

Another farmhouse, this one near Turin in the

Piedmont region of northwest Italy

has stolen my heart--

with interiors unlike any I have ever seen...

so much so that it feels like a sacred privilege

to view the art and personal objects within them,

many designed by the owner: the incredible Oberto Gili,

best known for his home and garden photography.

If you are not familiar Gili's work,

you are in for a very very sweet surprise,

so do stay tuned for a treasury of

rich and lovely rooms photographed

by Oberto Gili on the blog soon.

Gili's was inspired by the Antonioni film "Blow-Up"

and worked in London and Milan as a photographer

in the 70s before traveling the world for a year

to work on the interiors book Underground Interiors.

After relocating to New York in the 80s,

Gili worked for various magazines and was

introduced to the fashion world.

On his website's bio, he notes

"CURIOSITY IS MY ADDICTION.

I EXPERIENCE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

WHEN I STAY IN ONE PLACE FOR TOO LONG."

I find it so curious (ha!) that this farmhouse

and property is one owned by someone so full of

wanderlust since I'm not sure I could ever peel

myself away from the gardens and enchantment!

With his partner Joy Sohn,

Gili lives in a rambling two-story stucco farmhouse

with no heating or cooling system beyond woodstoves

in winter...and his intent was to keep the home's

essence modest enough to allow it

to be covered with flowers.

The home's second floor contains a master bedroom

and a guest bedroom, and rooms on the first floor

are all multipurpose rooms since the owner likes

to keep things loose and undefined.

It's a working 6-acre farm, and almost everything

they eat is grown on the property.

One of the details that made me smile reading the

interview with AD was that Gili loves

to bake sourdough from his own starter.

I do that weekly as well, but I don't make

15 pounds of it at a time like Gili!

Get ready to be wooed and romanced

that's all heart and soul.
