Artist Inspiration: Film Director Sergei Parajanov
November 18, 2010
These images are actually screenshots from
the film poem The Color of Pomegranates (1968)
by acclaimed film director
Sergei Parajanov (1924-1990).

The impossibly sensual photographs found here
bid me to know more about the story behind the story...
but the story behind the story actually
has multiple stories behind it.
Parajanov's The Color of Pomegranates
honors the Armenian priest, poet,
and "king of songs"
Sayat Nova was executed in 1795
by the army of Agha Mohammed Khan
for refusing to renounce his Christian faith.
But love always wins.
His poetry and artistry lives on.
Here I am 300 years later,
a 40-something suburban chic blogger
sharing with you a line from Nova's Love Song:
"Thou art a gold-embroidered tent
to shield me from the heat."
Peace to you right where you are.
to shield me from the heat."
Peace to you right where you are.
