My Home: hello lovely BASEMENT MAKEOVER (4)

March 27, 2011

Don't get me wrong.
Things are still pretty dang gnarly around here.
If you're just discovering the madness...it started here.

But now we can see the mess more clearly.
Recessed lights? CHECK.

A peek at the flooring:
a distressed maple wood clone.
ya, that means it's not hardwood.
but you're sooooo not gonna go around with loose lips
publicizing our secret and contacting the tabloids, right?
cuz i have a nail gun, and i'm not afraid to use it.
JK.
i have no idea how to use it.

More insulation has gone everywhere.

And I have requested lots of dimmer switches.
this photo makes me nauseous. sorry bout the pink grossness.

Boxing in duct work is a pain.

I'm thrilled at how much light streams
down the stairs now that the wall
has been cut.

The other side will soon
get knocked down too.

Just a small portion of the pine which
will cover the walls and be painted by moi.
no no don't cry for me.
I luuuuuuuhhhhhhhhzzzz to paint.
gonna give these flabby upper arms a workout.

What we're thinking for the floor in the bath:

polished Venetino marble
in a basketweave pattern.

We're going with a Kohler Memoirs sink.

The mirror will be a coat of arms one.

And the shower will have marble in a subway pattern.

Next:

addressing more DUCT ISSUES
and
then on to CEILINGS.

Thanks for joining and all the support!

So proud of my husband's work...this man
is an attorney by day!

Feel free to leave
THE NORWEGIAN
who is working so hard
a comment, yes?

Peace to you right where you are.

p.s.

  1. Kudos to handy hubsters! They do impress. Isn't it great to have mess illuminated yay - beats tripping over the mess. I wont tell anyone about your distressed maple wood clone if you don't tell anyone about my pearwood laminate ;-) - your bathroom is going to look wonderful. Will you have a bath in it or just a shower. I'm thinking if you have a bath you just might never want to leave.

  4. Excellent progress, it's looking great! Kudos to the Norwegian!

Your bathroom ideas are utterly fabulous and the flooring looks great (my lips are sealed). You had me imagining how much damage you could do with a nail gun you didn't know how to use, ha!

Have fun painting all that panelling!

Thank you for the mention, such a sweetheart you are!

  6. Hello Pretty lady!

You always make me smile... Knowing that you have a nail gun and doesn't know how to use is worse if you knew how... lol

Your basement will look tres chic, my friend! You've done so much already, eh?

I'm with you with the "faux" wood. It's much more durable, specially for basement. Great choice.

Thank you so much for your sweet words, Michele. I'm soooo excited. I bit nervous too, but I'm grateful. It's scary because we'll have to start everything again, but at the same time I want to enjoy every minute because this will be my last pregnancy. :-)

Thank you for your support. It means so much to me.

    Have a wonderful week.

  7. for Lisa: the bathroom will have a shower only but it's a roomy one.

why am i so shy and defensive about admitting we're using laminate flooring? crazy. maybe cuz we've never used it and it's such a huge investment.

thanks for the good wishes, friends!
