Books: Rachel Ashwell's Couture Prairie {10 things we like}
February 18, 2013
You may remember how thrilling it was
for this megafan to interview Rachel
when her last book was released,
and now I'm giddy again about
this fabulous new title coming in the fall:
(Cico, 2013).
Top 10 reasons Hello Lovely is over the moon?
1.
Rachel's a legend.
The love affair with shabby chic goes
wayyyyyyyyy back for many of us...
like before my looks faded and there were newborn
babies at my feet and a lot of
folks thought me nuts for subscribing to such a
romantic design sense, for painting everything
under God's creation white, and for feeling
stoned high from fleamarket thrifting.
Rachel Ashwell Couture Prairie: And Flea Market Treasures
Prairie girls rule.
Yep.
The new book title tickles my
fancy since I dwell in the
heartland...in prairie land.
3.
Shabby Chic titles deliver.
Have them all?
Get to gettin!
4.
Ms. Ashwell honors the imperfect.
Here is a collection you'll see at
Shabby Chic Couture very soon
called 'bent not broken.'
Are we as rockstars of the perfectly imperfect
on planet michele not completely lovin
her guts for bent not broken?

5.
Bloglove.
Rachel was kind enough to be interviewed
by me in 2011, and if you missed
it, I highly recommend
taking a look since she opens
up her heart, and the
light streams out.
6.
Shabby Chic is the original, baby.
If you have yet to discover the shop
Shabby Chic Couture, you are in
for yum overload...lovelies like
her linens and the inspiring banner
above are often copied but are all her.
7.
It's personal.
What I adore personally about Shabby Chic is:
the collections are cozy and approachable.
Aesthetics, function, quality, and soul
work harmoniously, and a humility
of spirit ties them all together.
So rare in designland...
can't think of another brand
striking such a lovely chord.

8.
It's a Texas Thing.
Rachel Ashwell Couture Prairie: And Flea Market Treasures is inspired by
Rachel's move to The Prairie in Round Top, Texas.
Visiting this wonderland
is on my LIST OF MUST DOs,
and if you are prairie-bound,
please please take me with you.
Never been to Texas, yet editors there
(Austin!) love me, so this must change.
The Prairie
is Rachel's answer to:
where to gather
for the loveliest
weddings and events?
Where to experience a B&B immersed
in prairie couture and shabby goodness?
I'll share glimpses of Rachel's
prairie queendom in my next post
since I'm certain you'll be smitten.
9.
Exceptionally chic photography.
It's a given.
We are bound to swoon with page after page
of gorgeous inspiring
design, furniture, accessories,
linens, and art...but you know
what else is likely to score?
10.
Englightening text and content.
Her words.
The beauty of the creator behind it all.
A treasure-seeking
Malibu-Brit Beachbabe who
built something magical
and deeply relevant
while remaining
steadfastly true to
her
signature
style.

Thanks for this post Michele. I used to live in LA in the eighties and I remember visiting her shop in Santa Monica. I've always been drawn to her style. And what a wonderful career she's had! I'm headed over to read your interview with her.
ReplyDeleteLeslie (Gwen Moss)
Rachel's shabby chic style was the way I first ever styled my own home sooooo many years ago. Even though my tastes morphed and changed a bit over the years, I just recently returned to a full-bloomed shabby chic prairie style ~ and I can't tell you, Michele, how much I love it!!!! It's always lived in a corner of my heart, but when I was reintroduced to it this year, I now can't get enough of it. I've saved money to buy items from her online store, and wait breathlessly for her sales so I can buy more. :) Thank you for featuring her today, my friend! I can hardly wait for her new book! ♥
