My Home: Kitchen
March 12, 2012
Some kitchen peeks and random
because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough,
and gosh darn it, people like photos of real kitchens.
Nothing major done lately, but painting the walls
a custom grey (somewhere between Benjamin Moore's
Ashley Gray and Hampton Beige) added interest.
We had the harvest table and bench
custom made in the '90s from
reclaimed barn wood.
Because it's soft pine, the kids left
behind all kinds of 'engravings' from
their homework. Pretty cool.
Still minimal.
Still totally easy to clean.
Still spacious enough for teenish boys
to walk on their hands.
Nevermind.
Shhhhhh!
Work in progress.
Need drapes. Hated the rug.
Made dinner for some friends
Sunday night and needed it to
look less 'work in progress' so I threw
a dropcloth runner on the table,
some old French sheets on the chairs,
and a ratty cableknit throw on the bench.
The dinky backsplash will probably go byebye.
Its travertine looks great with the quartz,
but I'm thinking tile it to the ceiling!
My sweet girl turned 10.
My living room is empty 'cept for a shabby sofa.
Tell miss clueless what to do in here cuz it's a huge room,
and I'm at the brainstorm stage.

is never lifeless or boring)!
I'll add linen drapes in here,
but seriously I need your help
designing a living room.
You already know I like neutrals,
serene, ethereal, and no clutter.
K?
Peace to you right where you are.

Hi Michelle,
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen. If you like neutrals, serene and no clutter there is lots of great inspiration in the Jeanne D'Arc magazines. They are my favortie. Great picture of you with your sisters. It looks like you have a lot of fun together.
M,
ReplyDeleteYou don't even know how much I like you.. do you??? I always smile when I see your picture.
I'm loving this new color! This really surprised me!
Do you remember when I asked you what color you had on your walls? I'd love to know that. I'm trying to go lighter around here. I painted my main floor almost 4 years ago and it's time to do it again.
Wishing you a blessed week, M.

Just said good bye to mine...yes I'm back in dreary ole England...just trying to find my mojo...usually takes a week...but I did go shopping today (remember, trying to find my mojo)...and bought my first marmalade jar, now I need a collection like yours. Robx

I forgot to comment about you and your sisters. Beautiful picture, looks like y'all were having a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, my...chicky! I have no idea how to make your space more delicious? It's already gorgeous, like you and your lovely sista's! I love your table and the fact that it has so much history, well, makes it simply devine in my eyes. Much love! Lisa
ReplyDeletethanks you guys!
ReplyDeletethe crocks: made in england in late 1800s. some of them held marmalade. i love using them for vases!
i'll share more pics of my sisters from that day cuz i got some great shots.
:)
WOW...3 beautiful women.....I mean seriously!
ReplyDeleteLove how soft everything is...and I love [and always will] a farm table and bench. Period. After looking at these peeks around your home...I doubt you need any help :)
Serene. That's what your house is. I love it.
ReplyDeleteLook at all you gorgeous ladies!!! You all look more Swedish than I do!
ReplyDeleteI love when you show pictures of your home, Michele. Your 10-year-old is cute as can be and your "new" walls look awesome.
I will never show my messy kitchen...
Love to you,
Mon
Michele I love this! I'm in need of window coverings too - difficult decision. The French jars are so pretty and I love all your white! (I'm a neutral girl too) great picture of you and your sisters - gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove the soft serene feeling of your kitchen, I say leave the windows open and airy. I very rarely put a covering on a window, I have to have light and air so I only have coverings where I have to have privacy at night, otherwise the windows are wide open. We live in a fishbowl, lol!!
ReplyDeletefind a fabric or some wonderful element for your jumping off point and I know you will burst with ideas.

Your kitchen is lovely. I love the paint color and I am sure whatever else you do to it will be equally lovely. You and your sisters look so much alike ...and all of you are sooo pretty.
ReplyDeleteBest...Victoria
OK, your house, your kitchen and you young ladies are GORGEOUS!!! You have so much light in your house and so much openness, I love it! I want to walk on my hands in your kitchen! Maybe leave the windows open? not sure how close or nosy the neighbors are? I am so glad that you has time to visit with your sisters, I bet that was a blast!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. And halloa, who is that? Little tail tale? Let me scoop you in my arms then sweet sugar! Looks like you are Bella Luna!
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen Mich. And are you 3 sistas? We too!
Your home is lovely. I can't imagine it won't be beautiful as you move forward in your decorating. :-)
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Ooh the grey (greige) is beautiful, Michele! Your kitchen was already very lovely, and the paint has taken up the chicness further!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your cutie Bella Luna! :)
You sisters are adorable, you look beautiful and happy!
Hugs hugs,
Meera xx
I'm loving your kitchen! The new color sets the tone perfectly. I've become a huge fan of grey and white lately with a little burlap thrown in for texture. Ha! I'm sure your living room is going to turn out great once you get that done too.
ReplyDeleteHoly Gorgeousness Batman! You're beautiful you are.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen/home is too. I have no idea what to tell you because as much as I completely admire someone who can work with such restraint, I simply can not. I love LOTS of STUFF thrown about, maximalist to the maximal (or something) that's me... but I am certain that whatever you do, it will be gorgeous.
My only piece of advice I guess I would have is to add LOTS of texture for interest, just like the throws and runner have added lovely interest to your table.
Hope your week is going swimmingly my dear and it's lovely to see your smiling face :) xxx
I don't know Michelle, I think you've been doing a bang up job so far on decorating your own home. :-) But hey, we always like to help someone else spend their money, so count me in!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Judy
Looks like you and your sisters were having some serious FUN!
What gorgeous girls!
ReplyDeleteLooks like such a fun moment caught on film!
I cannot believe you are asking for help! I love your style and you did such a great job on the lower level! Do your "thang" girlfriend. I don't think you need any help at all!
Follow your heart.
:)
Such a beautiful home!! I love the grey paint... brilliant!! You're kitchen is so charming and timeless... I love the layout of the cabinets! It will look incredible if you tiled to the ceiling! It's amazing what a little tile will do, especially in your beautiful dwelling!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're living room is such a fun space... the ideas are endless! If you want I'll send some pics your way!
Such beautiful ladies!
