Personal Reflections: mom
May 11, 2012
One of my earliest memories is
sitting on her lap with my head
resting on her Chanel No. 5 perfumed neck
as she chatted with a friend.
I was too young to understand
a word, yet the vibrations from her
vocal chords were for me the
sweetest sensation in all the world.
She has always had good hair
and was one of the coolest moms in town
in the 70's with the grooviest shaggy
Mrs. Brady wigs and falls.
Yeah, baby yeah.
Also she was Go-go-licious in hot pants
and a successful career woman
for 43 years.
(Probably no relationship between short shorts and her profession.)
My mom continues to iron
(here she is while expecting me...that's me in there!!!).
She continues to be an inspiring
encourager and rock in my life.
Earlier this year, she organized a sizeable
group of faithful people to pray for
me during a health crisis.
At the end of my battle, despite my weight
dropping to a frighteningly low 87 lbs.,
came this news:
Disease free. Healthy tissue. Healing.
Now it's mom who needs our support.
With her ability to walk nearly gone,
she will have major spine surgery to
fuse, repair, and re-build her.
Soon she will become a bionic mom.
We're scared sh*tless.
But we're trusting.
We're a little tired of human frailty.
But we're accepting.
Because once again,
love keeps making everything
okay.
Happy Mother's Day, friends.

Cute photos of your mom. Thanks for stopping by... I am already a follower of yours! I love your blog...
ReplyDeleteciao!
You have a wonderful mom! Good luck with her surgery. Last Sunday I was watching CBS This Morning and they had a doctor from Dallas on who has a new back procedure which replacing the invasive fusing surgery. It literally takes 15 minutes without being put under. You should go to the CBS This Morning website and check it out.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Mother's Day

Hi Michele,
ReplyDeleteWhat a touching story, and I love the photos of your mom. That first pic with the blue eyes ... just precious. Hope all goes well with your mom. It's not easy to watch them age. My own mother is battling Alzheimer's and we're in the process of finding new living quarters for she and my dad. Love your blog and I'm following you back!
How lucky are we to have been blessed with a mother who taught us how to love without limits and how to be courageous! Because of her, we believe in the power of prayer and the healing it brings. We believe in miracles. And we can trust that God will enable her to "stand on the heights" soon, as she becomes our bionic Supermom. Psalm 18:32-34 NIV
ReplyDeleteIt is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
my sistas are in the house!
ReplyDeletei love that lisa. i am sure i have read that psalm but the imagery of the bow of bronze seems completely new. and it's so the opposite of cowering in a corner and saying somethin like 'it is what it is'.
thanks for the prayers & positive energy, friends.
Your post was very heart warming, thank you for sharing with us today.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mothers Day to you and your mother.
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your mother and for her surgery to have wonderful results.
Suzann ~xoxo~
Oh Michele.. this is so sweet and I will pray for a good outcome and a speedy recovery for your Mother. It's frightening to think of our parents becoming so fragile. I have just returned from visiting my Dad who is becoming the later stages of dementia. It's a difficult journey but one that has resulted in me re-thinking my priorities.
ReplyDeleteOn a happier note.. did your Mom watch Jacklalanne? :)

Oh Michele - your post today touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. What a blessing you are to you sweet momma! She must be so very proud to have you as her daughter. I adored the picture of her pregnant with you. So sweet! Know that I will be keeping her in my prayers as she deals with her surgery. ♥

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post, Michele! Brought tears to my eyes...
ReplyDeleteYour mum is obviously a gorgeous person inside and out (not unlike her amazing daughter) and sending all the positive vibes I possibly can across the miles for her xxx
I can see where
ReplyDeleteyou get your brains,
beauty, class and
kind heart!! Love
these pictures as
they remind me of
my own mama in
her younger days.
Like yours, mine
is also my rock.
Praying hard that
she will zoom through
the days ahead with
little pain and A LOT
of good humor, as
that is what it will take.
And grit.
I'm sure she has that : )
Hope your own Mom's
Day was fab, my friend!
