Books: Millennial Modern (Geoffrey Bradfield}
August 14, 2012I just finished Geoffrey Bradfield's
A 21st Century Palace and can think of a million
reasons why this billionaire's decorator
may be the coolest cat in the castle;
however, I will limit myself to 5.
1.
He's okay with technology displayed nakedly
like the TV in his townhouse above.
2.
He has a passion for contemporary art
so clients like this couple in Mexico City
trust him with their palace's interior
and placement of important pieces.

3.
He wears his hair on the longer side;
for years it was down to his shoulders.
What? It's my blog, and this is not Architectural Digest.
I feel a connection with him about the hair thing.

4.
He shares incredible projects in
a new series of books so inquiring
design freaky minds don't have to
simply speculate about the wonder
of it all.
A 21st Century Palace
(Smallwood and Stewart)
is room-by-room insight into the home
created for a leading international art collector.

It's the first in a series, documenting five exceptional homes
that he has created worldwide (text by Jorges S. Arango).

"The premise of the book is working for a
modern day Medici, as if you were in Florence
working for Lorenzo Medici where the client
can have anything, and his taste is
so refined that it’s just exhilarating."
I learned all sorts of truly intriguing tidbits
about art and its value... i.e. the incredible dining
table masterpiece created especially for the client
came with a $500,000 price tag. Sounds steep
but when you learn the whole story, you realize
it is actually a priceless treasure.
(No photo of it here, you'll have to peek inside the book!)

5.
Every year he takes 10 of his friends with him
on a fun filled vacation...can you even imagine
the memories made and the joy shared
with such a tradition?
Okay.
Back to real life.
But isn't it refreshing to peek
through such an exquisite window
of the world if only for a moment?

Yes, it is very nice to take a closer look at someone's house! This is very classy! I love all those books!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Now I really need to go buy that book since I'm dying to read about that table....and I like his style!

So my first question was "Is that a REAL Frida Kahlo painting?". It seems like his clients not only have money but also taste which I can't say is always true with that income bracket! But that table...wow, what a price tag! Those must be some vacations he goes on with his friends...those are a lucky 10!
ReplyDeleteThose "lucite (?)" chairs...I DIE! franki
