hello lovely fixer upper {week 24}

January 06, 2016

Can you believe it has been 6 months since
we bought this crazy quirky cottage to reno?
We have made progress on the main floor,
and I'm getting closer to adding decor.

The kitchen is functional, and I actually unpacked
some boxes a couple days back and put things inside
the cabinets! Remember how it looked after demo?

before

You can't really see the harvest table I refinished white
in this shot, and the dining area is still a blank slate
waiting for window treatments and art.

before

We really didn't need to outfit a formal dining room
so at the moment it is functioning as a little library/
breakfast room...I still have to style the shelves.

You may remember we widened the opening between
the kitchen and dining room and added vintage French doors.

I will be adding some rugs, window treatments,
and art but the living room will stay pretty minimal.
We had family over for dinner Christmas Eve
despite the lingering chaos, and it was our first
holiday without our Bella Luna, who I miss everyday.

I'm sure the lamps will be changed out on the sideboard,
and I will probably create art for this 2-story wall
above it (we bought this huge 1930's Belgian
piece 10 years ago and finally found a spot for it!).

The old fireplace surround wasn't bad,
but the new one looks much better.
I left the black granite, removed
the glass doors, and still need to
paint the interior black.

Lots of projects left, but the house is very live-able now!
We took the master bath down to the studs, and my
husband is presently constructing a brand new bath.
Then we'll tackle the master bedroom, my studio,
lower level family room, lower level guest bedroom,
and maybe a new bathroom in the lower level.
When summer comes, we intend to address the
landscape and build a storage shed.

Thank you for following along, and
I will keep you posted as the decor comes together!

  1. First of all I'm sending you a big empathic hug for Bella Luna, just looking at that sweet face makes my heart ache too. Now as far as your home all I can say is "wow!" Im remembering how it looked on day one and I'm honestly floored by how much you guys got done. No wondered you're tired! 😊 however did you guys do it--and can we have some of your vitamins? The kitchen is positively dreamy-so classically pretty, I love all your selections and need to go back and find that kitchen post. I also want to see your newly painted table...how wonderful to have already hosted family for the holidays. You're already creating those special memories that make a home.
So happy to follow your progress ..you inspire me.

Its all really coming together Michele...just lovely spaces...I'm especially loving how you tiled the entire wall in the kitchen with the marble....Everything in your home is so simple and on trend...looking forward to seeing the dining table you painted. Thinking of painting the top of ours but not sure how it will hold up with lots of use...Thanks for sharing your journey..xo, Mariaelena

    1. i need to give my harvest table a proper photo shoot, but it's hard since i'm not quite at that decorating stage yet--still trying to get the essentials in order! there are all sorts of finishes you can put on top of the painted surface to assure it will be durable. best to you, mariaelena.

  5. Loving your progress girl, and the kitchen tile brought all the way to ceiling height is a favorite look of mine in a kitchen, next to every favorite I am inspired by :)
It looks like amazing space for a down size from your last home.
Every inch of it is taking on all the beauty you are inspired by and all of it is so you.

Can't wait for the final reveal when you dance about the second floor showing off all the rooms and what you do with accessorizing it with your artful touch.

    See you soon.

  9. I'm so very sorry about the loss of your Bella Luna. I have a sweet kitty, Bob, who is getting up there in years, and I have a feeling he won't be with me too much longer. I don't know what I will do without him!

  12. I have loved watching the remodel of the "cottage", sure is looking beautiful!!! Is the chair with square arms in your fireplace room from Pottery Barn? Looks like a linen slipcover, I am looking for a side chair and love how this chair looks in your room. Thanks for sharing.

  13. Michele to say I am impressed is an understatement. I could move right in and of course I would add a touch of blue here and there and maybe a black and white stripe or two. It is perfection, YOU have to be so happy and proud of all your planning and hard work!! Love it, love you!
