Lovely Finds: Druzy

August 26, 2011

Truly woozy.
It's like.
All over, Suzy.

Shimmery, natural gemstones...

D R U Z Y
(or Drusy or Druse)
is the obsession du jour.

Love stoned and rocked
by
sparkly,
galactic-tastic,
dreamy von dreamy,
druzy doozy properties.

My smoky druzies set in sterling from Nixin ($78)

Why?

The natural beauty of these gemstones
 highlights nature's artwork.
And nature's
artwork?
Hard to beat.

Nicki of Nixin educated me:
druzy is an effect, not a type of stone...
a coating of a fine layer of miniature crystals
on a rock fracture surface, vein,
or within a vug or geode.

For those friends in blogland who know me well,
do you suppose it's just a coincidence I am
drawn to stones whose beauty increases
after fracture, trauma, or brokenness?

Researching druzy further,
Laurie taught me druzies are typically calcite or quartz.
She offers affordable stones at her online shop,
and you can even specify pre-drilled.

NEATO THINGS
will have you on your way to transforming
druzy into unique adornment (a trio costs around $10).

Notice all druzies
are not neutral-hued BTW.

If bold color tingles your jingles,
taste the rainbow above.

Sarah Renee Designs

This blogger is partial to snowy white,
hushed pinks, and moonlight grey though.
*whoa, shocker*

Aren't these stunning hoops designed by
Sarah Renee
fabulously feminine?

Don't get me started on hoops...
oooooooh lala...
and we shall absolutely not not not
obsess about the beachy blonde's
glorious hair color.
Not one druzy bit.

Seen enough druzy?
Never!

Designers around the planet
incorporate the stones in uniquely artful ways.

In New York City for example...

NYC Jewelry

Devin
has an educational background
in fashion design
and now applies her flair
to fashionable pieces such as
these druzydreamz.

Feelin a bit woozy?

Devin's rosy druzies (below)
appeal to the romantic
ballerina within me.
Are they luscious, or are they luscious?

Miles and miles from NYC,
in Arequipa, Peru,
the deeply compassionate
Johanna runs
R RUNAWAY
offering artfully rustic accessories.

Head turning Auquihato necklace from Rrunaway:
this druzy stone is pyrite (fool's gold).

She styles pieces with an artist's eye.
Can you grasp how such a necklace
can easily serve as an art
piece to display?

Little cutie in the photo is Rosita,
who requires ongoing surgeries, and
30% of the Rrunaway profits
pay for medical treatment.
Johanna has a great sale going on.

Druzy for decor...
can you imagine replacing a tray of
seashells or pinecones in an entry
with silvery twinkling quartz instead?
So modern chic!
(Except my mom would gasp
"SHE'S CROSSED OVER TO
THE NEW AGE DARK SIDE!!")

 SUFI PRIESTESS
(Starseed Enterprises)
digs druzy.
Literally.

From the Diamond Hill mine
in South Carolina, they recover
a gorgeous variety of natural stones,
and their prices are friendly to boot.

Whew!

I'm woozy with fatigue...
and bummed I lacked
the rhymetastic courage
to call you a floozy
anywhere in
this post.

For true-zy!

 (I mean you could totally
pound me all bruise-y).

Would love to hear your thoughts
on druzy, lame wordplay, or
your lovely obsession du jour...

Peace to you right where you are.

  12. I am all druzied out! I have a small collection of crystals to help heal stuff in my life. I'm not 100% that it works, but as your post shows, they make you feel better just by looking at them. My fave is a polished pyrite orb and to hold it and feel it heat up is quite amazing!
