You may know by now that I'm a self-proclaimed
STAY AT HOME GYPSY
who aint trotting the globe like many of you,
but I do feel the itch to plan a vacation
getaway, and today's post may have
you itching as well.

That would be moi at left.

How about escaping to a breathtaking Italian villa?

Of course, a stay under the Tuscan sun at Borgo Santo Pietro,
with its 16 bedrooms and cook service will require
us to fork over $25,000 nightly, so perhaps
we will enjoy it as a fantasy home tour, and
reserve practical options for another post.

Fantasy Home Tour: Italian Villa Borgo Santo Pietro

Set among thirteen acres of formal gardens,
the elegant Borgo Santo Pietro transports you
to a different era without sacrificing
any modern luxury.

Once a resting place for pilgrims on their way
to Rome, the 13th-century villa has been fully
restored into a sixteen-bedroom haven
with hotel-worthy amenities.

Though it feels like its own world,
the property is close to both Florence and Siena.

Tucked among manicured lawns and paths, find:
an orchard and organic vegetable garden,
a pool and jetted tub,
outdoor shower,
playground,
tennis, basketball and bocce courts,
ping-pong table and trampoline,
Wi-Fi access,
wine cellar,
and on-site spa.

Borgo Santo Pietro’s interiors are classically sumptuous with:
stone floors,
original fireplaces,
plush upholstery,
full drapes and plenty of crystal chandeliers,
cook service,
and sixteen bedroom suites
(each with en-suite bathroom, air conditioning
and sitting area).

In the main house, there are six bedrooms,
and in the garden house, you’ll find seven bedrooms.

During your stay, you can arrange to experience
local culture firsthand at a cooking lesson,
wine tasting or pottery class, or see the
Tuscan hills on horseback.

Bring your clubs for a round
at the golf course (30-minute drive)
or head to the beach (40 minute drive).

So, when is messy beautiful rather than undesirable?

Surely the formula varies, and the distinction

a subjective one, but I think Bingham

illustrates how "the new eclecticism"

celebrates bold, artistic, rule-breaking,

creative individuality.

There is a freedom in mixing styles,

eras, influences, and lovely finds

without any worry except to please

one's own eye that I imagine to be

akin to freely painting an abstract or

fashioning an imaginative outfit

that just feels right.

I know folks who put a lot of thought
into their eclectic interiors, and I know

energize and inspire.
