Magnificent still life painting by Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin

Still Life Painting Inspiration: Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin

Let's explore inspiring classic still life paintings

with tranquil beauty and hushed color palettes

and allow their quiet beauty to work magic on

our souls, yes?

Slow inhale. The still life.

Gentle exhale. The still-er life.

Hmmm. I feel called to slow down,

and I guess I'm taking you all with me,

if that's okay.

Please do visit this slow living ditty

posted the other day if you missed

it since it is sort of a primer for

our journey into a slower lovelyland,

with more stillness and intentional living.

What makes it a still life?

It's a work of art typically depicting common

objects of life such as fruit, flowers, vases, etc.

By the late 16th century, still life painting emerged

as a distinct painting genre, and today, still life

work can involve 3D mixed media, found objects,

video, and sound.

Art buyers LOVE still life, and is it any wonder?

The inanimate objects are frozen in time

and seem to whisper "look closer...look

at all the beauty hiding in the mundane."

I have a background in psychology and

psychotherapy, so I see a paralell

between the popularity of still life

with art buyers and the habit of

Pinterest users to largely pin photos

without faces in them (unless the face

is say Channing Tatum)...we humans

seem to need to project ourselves

into the scene.

Let's get lost in still life lovely...

Do you believe viewing art can be
healing or a spiritual practice?
I certainly do, and I need not understand the
mystery of how the healing comes, I only
need to be open to allow it in.

Thanks for reading, friend.

Peace to you right where you are.

Before and After: Modern Farmhouse Interior Design Makeover

May 25, 2017

Gorgeous shingled entrance and front door of Connecticut farmhouse of Debbie Propst of One King's Lane - found on Hello Lovely Studio

Before and After: Modern Farmhouse Interior Design Makeover

As promised, I'm sharing some "before and after"

redesign magic from the modern farmhouse in

Connecticut of One King Lane's president

Debbie Propst...here's the full scoop on

the decorating idea inspiration I came

up with after seeing this project

you missed it.

One King's Lane is not just an online source

for furniture and home décor items, they also

offer design services with a team known as

The Studio, and you can now meet one-

on-one with a designer for a consult.

For OKL's president, the Studio

reimagined "a tasteful (but tired) 60-year-old

property into a contemporary showcase...

architect who specialized in Cape Cod structures,

the farmhouse-style home already had good bones

and plenty of character. The challenge?

Modernizing the interiors to suit the needs

of a growing family without sacrificing

the home's original details and charm."

I loved seeing the reimagined modern farmhouse,

but I think it's even more helpful to see where

it began, so let's take a look at the

before and after interior design story

of this beautiful midcentury home.

The kitchen's dining area BEFORE:

Before and After: Modern Farmhouse Interior Design Makeover

In the "before" of the kitchen's dining/breakfast

area, you can see the Charlotte Table has not yet

been painted, and while the room already

looks gorgeous with its good bones,

look what happens when it gets updated...

AFTER

I love the cheeriness the pool blue striped

rug adds, and those mirrors!

Here's another before shot where there was

a child-sized table set.

The kitchen was a beauty even before the

and spacious work areas.

Just look what fresh white paint can do!

The open shelving in a corner of this kitchen

is one of my favorite features that was

already there, and it's incredible how

much it was dressed up after

painting it.

Here's what motivated OKL president,

Debbie Propst to take on this project:

"I believe that to be a really great lifestyle brand

you have to have a two-way relationship

with your customer, and I felt the best way

to do that was to open up my home to the

One Kings Lane community."

So brave and honorable!

Can you imagine opening up your home

for tours while parenting two little ones!?!

What an amazing leader.
