36 Ways to Decorate the Christmas Fireplace Mantel
December 21, 2016Pam Pierce - Holiday Mantel |
Truth be told, I need all the inspirational help
I can get for Christmas decorating, and specifically,
trimming the fireplace mantel for Christmas
because as a natural born minimalist, I get
shaky around the holidays when so often
"more is more" and abundant embellishment
becomes a virtue.
Just because I feel more comfortable with spare
doesn't mean I am exempt from decking the halls.
Decorating for Christmas at home is about
ushering in a sense of joy and peace and
celebration with family and visiting friends.
For my fireplace mantel this year (find it
hidden within the collection below!), I added
fresh evergreen branches from my front yard,
tiny white fairy lights, a few vintage gold balls,
and a pair of wild rosemary topiaries.
I would love to create something to cover
the big black TV hovering over the pretty
so maybe next year!

DECORATING THE CHRISTMAS MANTEL
beginning with a favorite interior design genius
and editor of Milieu Magazine,
With her classic, European styled mantel decor
above and below...the decor is luxurious and awe inspiring
while at the same time possessing a humility
and groundedness...and to my eyes, this is possible
when one remains true to natural elements and
pieces from the past invoking calm and peace.

Pierce's designs appeal to my need for restraint
and refinery without excess, and her color palette
soothes me, invites me to rest and enjoy quietude.
Mary Oliver's poetry has a similar effect
on my spirit and guides me into a peaceful dimension.
Her poem about praying, for example:
Praying
It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
another voice may speak.

Isn't that poem just a lovely antidote for the hustle
and bustle and holiday rush so many of us fall
prey to each year as we strive for perfection,
when what our hearts may truly need is rest?
Enjoy these lovely examples of beautifully executed
Christmas and holiday decorated fireplace mantels,
most of which appeared in Traditional Home,
Veranda, and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazines.
