DIY: My Wooly Pom Pom Christmas Wreaths
December 05, 2016
Creating woolen yarn pom poms for wreaths
and other holiday embellishments
is one of my favorite crafty projects.

They are innocent, fluffy, retro...and
reminiscent of my childhood in the 1970s.

Tissue paper pom poms are also a favorite of mine
It's our last night of vacation in Arizona,
as I type this, and I am told back home,
the first snowfall of white has blanketed Chicagoland.
So as soon as I return home, it will be time
to deck the halls, find a beautiful Christmas tree,
and begin adding simple touches including
homemade cozylovely wooly goodness.

I like how the fluffy wreaths are more 'hushed wintry decor'
than 'Look at me, all bling and bedazzled, guys...
I'm friggin CHRISTMASY up in here!'
I'm friggin CHRISTMASY up in here!'
Instead, they whisper 'peace to you...let's cozy on down.'
Right at home on an old grey toolbox.
I make my pom poms the old fashioned way.
No pom pom makers, mass production, or sweat shop.
Just my fingers wrapping woolen yarn round
and round and round a simple piece of cardboard.
a few of my favorite textures mingling together
I offered pom pom wreaths in my etsy shop a few years back.
Each is slightly different, and they aren't created cheaply
because they are so labor intensive.
I begin by tenderly bandaging a wreath form
with Shabby Chic natural linen before attaching
two sizes of pom poms to the front..

The wooly wreath above is made with faux sheepy fur,
beribboned with blush pink Barbara Barry fabric.

of pink and just loved the harmony
of the pretties together in pristine fluffy snow.

The wreaths are simple, imperfect and humble, like
the holiday trimmings with which I love to decorate.

Where would you hang your fuzzy wuzzy
ring of woolen wonder?

Yes Its snowed like crazy in Chicago yesterday, its beautiful heavy winter wonderland (Im in the far western suburbs-the country haha).... welcome home. (Really enjoy the blog and stumbled across it just about a month ago-lots of great inspiration for my downsizing project). Especially the Patina Farm feature, I asked my sons for the book for Christmas as I'm in the middle of the process to start building a new home.
ReplyDeleteThanks for welcoming me home! Thanks so much for finding the blog and the kind words. Patina Farm is amazing, and everything the Giannettis do inspires me. Best to you as you begin the new construction! exciting, Elaine!
DeleteI stumbled across your blog about a month ago, too.. and it's now one of my favs. Question. How did you make the faux sheep fur wreath? Are those strips of faux fur glued to a form? Or are those yo-yo circles strung together? It's gorgeous....
ReplyDeleteI emailed you, Cindy, but in case anyone else is curious. I use strips of faux fur and don't even hot glue until the very end of the wrap. Hope this helps! thanks so much for finding me. xox
DeleteYour wreaths are sooooo charming! Love them :) Hope you are enjoying your beautiful new home. Cheers
