Thanks so much for visiting my post from yesterday
and how the Christmas decorating is progressing...
I am crazy for modern farmhouse style, and I
think you can tell from my own kitchen
(both in its minimal state and with decorations):

I can't lie...this is often how we live in this
small space since it feels airy, clean, and bright.
Our farmhouse table has been our family kitchen
table for almost 20 years, and even though it's
huge for this much smaller house, I use it
for projects and even folding laundry
so it delivers bigtime function.
I kept it feeling modern here by using lots of simple
clear glass, and keeping it monochromatic and minimal.

The decor is limited to a wreath or two, twiggy tree,
twinkle lights, and some fresh greenery
which smells soooo nice.
We don't have privacy issues so are able to
keep the windows free of coverings, and
our wooded lot becomes the interest and texture.

Galvanized containers are humble and
seem right at home in modern farmhouse design,
and I love its grey-blue color.
You can't see the white oak floors in these images,
but the natural wood adds much needed warmth,
and I plan to bring in more wood with finishing touches.
For it to feel farmhouse, vintage accessories often
play a role, and I love how they mix with modern
art and finishes.

It doesn't scream CHRISTMAS, yet I have to show you how Vintage Whites used a mix of natural wood and white in this amazingly charming, unfitted kitchen with white floors, open shelves, more cool unique features than I can say. |

The soft accent colors of kitchen essentials add
so much visual beauty and interest even
though they are functional and hardworking.
I have also used unframed paintings in my kitchen,
and I love how they work to make a kitchen feel
more informal, personal, and like a living room.
Concrete counters feel modern, youthful, and rustic.
Vintage Whites has causally introduced
fresh greenery which looks so amazing with white.
Humble and distressed vintage country
furniture pieces seem right at home.
Crisp white slipcovers look so smart
in modern farmhouses and accent
pieces can be any color.
Now for more inspiration from other
creative modern farmhouse influencers.
Kind of minimal nirvana if you ask me.
How about minimal, slab style cabinetry design
which requires no additional hardware?
Subway tile just always works for timeless.
Wow.
So many high end details adding elegance
to this modern farmhouse kitchen design
which takes my breath away.
I love how the rustic wood flooring has character
and the cabinetry hardware so sleek and sexy.
The simple detail of the black window
over the sink packs a huge punch.

Those wishbone chairs, white painted brick,
concrete flooring, and sheer gauzy tablecloth
combine for a magically ethereal vibe.

The quiet tones and absence of clutter.
Lovely times ten.
So much sweetness here in handmade wreaths
suspended from a natural branch for this
rustic buffet...and how about an imperfect
layer cake for a no fuss, but dramatic dessert.
I appreciate the mix of textures for seating here
with wood, metal, and wicker.
And you can't go wrong with a white farmhouse table
for modern farmhouse flavor (layered on a natural
fiber rug).
I could stare at this forever because it so
brilliantly introduces matte crockery,
soft pinks with the florals and macarons,
and a feminine presentation without
being cutesy or too precious.
Rachel Ashwell would be dying over this.
This modern farmhouse kitchen captured
my heart with its distinctive green painted
cabinets which look just like those in a
close friend's farmhouse kitchen.
High-end appliances contrasting with
all the rustic is a killer combo.
The chairs look so comfortable and modern,
and I feel I could be happy spending the whole
day in here and never wanting to leave.
A simple sweet gesture beckoning
me to add them to my own home.
I have clear glass yogurt jars I brought
home Paris that look like these, and
I grow thyme in containers...so an herb wrapped jar
with a votive candle inside is an easy idea to steal!
Setting the table with little gifts/favors is
such an easy, generous way to approach
designing a tablescape, and a paper runner
is a no-fuss answer to a worry free table cover.

My take away here is the power of white on white
(the plates on the marble), and the beauty of
simple food made with love.
Beth Kirby and her slow, gorgeous living
gives me consistent glimpses and hope
that life can be lived integrally,
intentionally, and as a breathing work of art.
Skinny farmhouse table and benches
are rustic yet refined since they are
neither clunky, nor chunky.
Simple is just better, and an abundance of
clear glassware keeps everything light as air.
This is so beautiful to my eyes with its
craftsmanship and thoughtful minimalism.
I love that more folks are foregoing the
requisite island and opting for informal,
family style dining at a table right in the
center of the action.
An absence of bling, metallic
anything, red, and tinsel...a whispering
of a few functional pieces and texture.
A skinny farmhouse table requires
some creativity for a centerpiece,
and this one succeeds brilliantly
with its mixmatched dining chairs.
A plate rack is right at home
for modern farmhouse and even
works double time as art on the wall.
House Seven Design
When farmhouse style is done with
orderly organization, it feels modern.
I'm pretty sure this is Amy Neunsinger's
famous Cali kitchen, and its timeless
appeal is due to the masterful way
the feminine and rustic are balanced,
as well as how the varying textures
complement each other beautifully.
(The pretty and romantic chandelier
adds so much feminine warmth,
and the exposed duct work
is a counterbalance.)
I am definitely going to try layering on
simple fresh branches from the yard
with votives...the bazillion sheepskins
will be a little trickier to score.

The first thing I noticed in this bedroom
was the rustic farmhouse wood door which
is just like ours except for the arched
top panel...and I'm a fan of all that
natural linen on the bed.
Evergreen, white, linen, and black
make a modern farmhouse quartet sing.
Trees in winter are so underrated.
I became a big fan last year as I studied
them with new eyes and saw within them
a courageous surrender, a letting go,
that I can learn from...so I love seeing
bare branches appear in so many slow living,
modern farmhouse vignettes as a reminder.
Lanterns and hurricanes outdoors in now.
Cozy, nubby knits in natural colors.
Weathered benches that just get better with age.
Grainsacks, peg racks, and wild natural wreaths.
(Maybe I can stop apologizing for my wild ones!)
I so want this blog to be a design sanctuary which
slows the heart rate and breathing, elicits deep sighs,
and soothes all the senses, so I hope some of these
images and ideas have stirred those responses in you.

I didn't even notice the color at first as I was focused on that table, the open organization and those crocks! You just don't get that look from one store/location in one day. That takes a lifetime.....
