Books: Decorating The Way I See It {Markham Roberts}

February 20, 2015

Fresh, modern, and layered,
Markham Roberts designs rooms that to my eye
have that je-ne-sais-quoi-elusive undecorated chic.

Markham Roberts

After training with the legendary Mark Hampton
for six years, he opened his design firm in 1997
and is celebrated in all these fabulous places:
Architectural Digest, Domino, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, House & Garden,
Southern Accents, Town & Country, and The New York Times.

What a pleasure to light a candle and curl up with this volume.

Decorating the Way I See It (Vendome, 2014) is the
designer's new book which is a delicious compendium
of all sorts of daring, unexpected, lovely
combinations of color, texture, and artful style.

I admire how  this designer's rooms
never feel stuffy, and I'd like to think
this is partly achieved as a result
of his Midwestern roots.

Concerning the "American look," he told House Beautiful:

"In a Tudor-style house, like the one I was raised in, you could have an English library next to a French living room. Americans would blend all these styles, and the houses were very much like Americans themselves: a great mix."

What's your take on American style?

Have an opinion about what the American look
in design resembles?

Peace to you right where you are.

  2. Hi Michele,
Its so refreshing to see colour used in patterns and in a mix of old. I love the tufted plum sofa, and that vintage zinc tin jello mold makes an interesting statement....something I would do :)

Beautiful post, you know Michele, every time I see colour these days it makes me want to add a bit of colour, then I step back giving it some thought and say to myself the most colour I would add would most likely be black lol !

    See you soon dear,

    Xx
