Rustic Decor Inspiration: Beautiful Barn Conversions

Jesse Carrier and Mara Miller of
Carrier and Company Interiors, are a
husband-and-wife design duo who create
rooms that are a confident mix of timeless
and contemporary design—both familiar and fresh
at once.
Always refined and sophisticated,
light-filled and airy, the Carriers’ work ranges
in style from elegantly traditional to luxuriously
minimalist to glamorously bohemian.
Their rooms feature subtle patterns and neutral
palettes punctuated by bursts of exuberance
and unexpected mixes of high and low, old and new.
In an interview with Tastefully Inspired last month,
the designers reveal their favorite magazines are
Vogue
Esquire
and Nylon,
and they have this to say about adding spice to a design:
"Experimenting is the key to “spicing up a design.”
Interior design and decorating is costly – and should
be thoughtful and long-lived, so it is most important
to first have a useful and cohesive plan
and selection of furnishings. Then it is just as
important to see how you can “tip” the look
by swapping out a thing or two – maybe it’s
replacing a perfectly tasteful pendant
with an over-scaled chandelier, or seeing what
happens if the carpet becomes multi-colored.
Conversely, the same idea works to simplify a scheme – by swapping out an active pattern for a simple jute or linen."

I love these... years ago in a shopping center here in Tulsa named "The Farm" there was a furniture store in what was either designed to look like a barn or was actually an old converted barn. I used to dream about that space... thinking how great it would be to have an open living kitchen dining area with a laundry/pantry/bath and back porch on the back side with stairs leading up to at least 3 bedrooms and a couple of bathrooms on 3 sides with a balcony overlooking the main floor. Now that I've seen these conversions I wish I'd pushed to make that dream come true.... beautiful blend of rustic, modern, casual and elegant....
