{Around Chicago} Waldorf Astoria Chicago in August
September 07, 2012It's becoming a lovelyjubbly tradition.
This is the second year we chose to celebrate
our anniversary at the Waldorf Astoria Chicago
(formerly the Elysian Hotel).
Did it disappoint this time?
Did it disappoint this time?
love the terraces.
Ummmmm. NO!
Please make a note that mama did not curse here.
I think this signals 'growth.'
Ranked the number one large city hotel
in the continental U.S. (Travel + Leisure, 2012),
Waldorf Astoria Chicago
makes me weak with its expansive suites,
friendly service, and wow wow wow

amenities including fireplaces and terraces.
the living room of our king suite
We booked a fabulous rate online because
you already know I'm a frugal girl
(even for an anniversary thang).

(even for an anniversary thang).
The bedroom was understated and luxurious,
with bitchenlovely details like the
hide pillow on a chaise overlooking the city.
Request a high floor (this is the 24th) like we did
if you favor views of the lake, skyline,
if you favor views of the lake, skyline,
and the beautiful Gold Coast neighborhood.
We are crazy for the Waldorf's marble
bathrooms with soaking tub, huge shower,
and TV in the mirror.
Color me a spoiledBetty, ever content
in a velvety soft robe.
The manager was kind enough to send Ferrari
over in honor of the occasion.
Not a Ferrari.
Not a Ferrari.
If it's possible, the husband enjoys macarons
more than I do and quickly polished off the
box sent up as a tasty welcome.
We opted to dine in our room for breakfast,
and ooh la la, it did not disappoint.
A great value included in our room's rate.
collage of photos from another visit with friends to the Elysian Spa
After breakfast, my husband had business meetings
so I happily took advantage of the Elysian Spa
in the hotel (an amenity for hotel guests only!)
which leads me to why I recommend this hotel
so highly for your next getaway.
Stay here!
You will be torn between fabulous shopping
right outside the door (the Magnificent Mile),
zen moments at the incredible Elysian Spa, and
dining to your heart's desire at so many exceptional
restaurants in the Windy City.
Raise your hand if you're ready to check in!
Peace to you right where you are.

Hope you also enjoyed some of the restaurants on Rush street and the gelato stand in the park. We have stayed at the Elysian several times and love it. A very good friend of ours works for the property so i will have to share your positive experience. Isn't the heated courtyard amazing!?

ReplyDeleteI like your inventive way of making your own slipcovers. I used to put pillow cases over the backs of my chairs before I found parson chair slips.
