staircase becomes much more than a functional
way up or down?
Visually graceful, sculptural, and architecturally
interesting, staircases are often overlooked
as a means to make a memorable personal statement
to be enjoyed every single day for many years, and
the reason is quite clear: it aint easy.
The structural plans alone can be daunting.
So when extra care and attention is given to
the design and materials for creating a
masterful staircase...oh, my, what
wondrous results may emerge.
Here are 26 examples of inspiring staircases,
plenty of them luxury fantasy-types we are
unlikely to replicate (don't you dare send me
a ranting email about how it's silly

What kills me about the image above is that this
entry's proportions are just about identical to the
entry in my own cottage, and to see what reclaimed
wood, oversized doors, delicate iron and limestone
could do makes me nutty! We even have that
window you see in the stair landing, only ours
has colonial trim and a fan window above it...boo.

Here's the thing about open stair risers.
They totally work in this minimalist space
above, but the carpeted ones in our fixer upper
looked ridiculous paired with the traditional
décor and finishes around them...in most cases,
you cannot simply combine all of your
favorite architectural elements (colonial trim,
open stair risers, and '70s shag carpet, for example)
and expect them to work eclectically.

No "chops bustin" for the posts coming from me dear Lady! I love your posts and even if I may never be fortunate to have the grandeur, I completely 100% LOVE seeing and dreaming of them. The only complaint I have is that there is absolutely NO WAY to pick a fave from this list. Just no way at all...I love the simplistic minimal staircase right on up to the palace staircase....ok, maybe I will bust your chops for asking to pick a favorite!! LOL!
