Soulful Farmhouse Style {Decor Inspiration}
June 02, 2017
This time last year,
my husband and I fell in love with the
Hudson River Valley while there for
a mini vacation/writer's workshop,
and this first rustic farmhouse with
and this first rustic farmhouse with
soulful, minimal, and functional style,
resides in the same gorgeous neck of the woods.
When I glimpsed these interior photos by Justine Hand
of a 1722 stone farmhouse (on Remodelista),
I couldn't stop staring.
Then tears rolled down my cheeks.
Shrink me all you like, but this is the effect
soulful, raw, authentic, timeless design has
on a sensitive soul seeking beauty.
Sometimes a house remains just a house.
And sometimes it becomes a home
when an owner lovingly cares for it and
And sometimes it becomes a home
when an owner lovingly cares for it and
treads softly.
It does seem homeowner,
It does seem homeowner,
Deborah Ehrlich turned this house
into a soulful home
to suit her taste and lifestyle.

Greet of Belgian Pearls shared a dining room in the
18th century home of her close friends near Antwerp,
and I was struck by that same spirit of soulfulness,
this time in a space with Scandinavian-inspired
décor and elegance.
Soulful design obviously doesn't have to be
interpreted strictly with minimal décor,
and here's a prime example that comes
with a stunning crystal candlelit chandelier.

Modern farmhouse style is easy to love,
and when it's done soulfully,
imperfections and natural variation
bring character to the design and
delight the eye.
I'm inspired and intrigued by homes
achieving soulfulness while remaining
functional and interesting.
The experimentation continues within my own
modern farmhouse-ish kitchen below,
and our antique farm table has moved to
my studio where it's used to create art.
Soon I'll show you our kitchen's
new incarnation, but who knows
how long it will remain in this state...as long
as it stays soulful, it's all good.
For similar soulful farmhouse style
and interior design, do pop over to

Thanks for reading and journeying
with me, friends...I love having you here.
Peace to you right where you are.

I grew up in the country of the Hudson River Valley surrounded by dairy farms and orchards. We moved south when I was 17 and I've never been back. Sometimes I look at farms for sale on Zillow in my old neck of the woods and the pictures of the rolling hills and long lush grass of the meadows make me cry for the beautiful land that lives in my heart. I miss the farm ponds we ice skated on before the snow really started to fall in December and I miss sled riding down huge hills with stone walls at the bottom that necessitated ditching right before impact. Winters were bitterly cold and summer was glorious! Thanks for sharing a lovely home from my old home.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your nostalgia, Katherine! What an incredible backdrop for your childhood memories, and I know just what you mean about the allure of nature there. I didn't want to leave when we were there last year, and I can just imagine how you hold it so dearly in your heart. Thank you for sharing so beautifully! xox
